I enjoy the individual attention professors can give to each student. I hope that the program and the university will continue to grow, and become a renowned university one day, which it absolutely deserves.

“In my experience with Alliant it was very clear from the start that there was a commitment to education being the great equalizer—and so I feel like I got the tools through my learning at Alliant that are allowing me to become a better teacher and reach out to everyone in my classrooms.”

Turn your compassion into a rewarding career in mental health

If you have a passion for helping people manage the complexities of their lives, advanced studies in psychology can be enormously rewarding. An advanced degree can help you help others, and can open doors to career options in hospitals, health centers, clinics, and private practice, social work, education, ministry, and government service.

As you focus on your interest in psychology, consider these two career paths:

As a Clinical Counselor, you’ll work with individuals, and as a
Marriage and Family Therapist, you’ll work with couples and families.

>> Clinical Counseling Career

Clinical mental health counseling is vital to building a healthy and prosperous society. Licensed professional clinical counselors (LPCC) focus primarily on the needs of patients as individuals with the purpose of improving mental health, though they may also work with families and in group settings.

In our master’s in clinical counseling (MACC) degree program, you’ll gain valuable, hands-on training in counseling individuals who are struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, loss, anger management, infidelity, and other issues. Throughout the program, you’ll receive the preparation you need to become an outstanding clinical counselor.

>> Marital and Family Therapy Career

As a marriage and family therapist, you’ll help individuals and couples explore their relationships and understand how their behavior affects their family, their job, and their community. Licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFTs) focus on the relational and interpersonal dynamics within couples, marriages, and families.

In our master’s in marital and family therapy program, you’ll explore interpersonal relationships within traditional and non-traditional family structures, helping people navigate areas such as relationships, separation, childhood, and divorce, as well depression, anxiety, and other psychological issues.

Our COAMFTE–accredited master’s program prepares you for state licensure and increased employment opportunities.

Which is the Right Choice for You?

Both careers will empower you to make a real difference in people’s lives. The degree programs share many of the same courses, with the difference being the clinical counseling practitioner emphasizing the individual in therapeutic practices, and the marital and family practitioner focusing on helping couples, marriages, and families with relationships and related matters.

Our accredited Master’ in Clinical Counseling and Master’s in Marital & Family Therapy programs can help you get there. They are offered online, and we have admissions counselors available to help guide you through your options and help you determine which is the right choice for you.
